Crap!

Music today sucks. Wow that makes me sound old, but it does suck for the most part. I was walking into a store the other day and I happened to come in at the worst time. They were playing a local radio station and I hear what is probably one of the worst lines in musical history. The line went like this:

“I ain’t got no motorboat, but I can float your boat.”

My head nearly exploded. That is just wrong in so many ways. For one thing, what the hell does having a motor boat have to do with ‘floating someones boat.’? I can kinda see how the person thought hey, they both have something to do with water, so it makes sense. Also you can’t rhyme boat with boat. Rhyming is taking two different words that sound the same, not the same word! Eminem also did this in a song where he “rhymed” sweden with sweden. That’s just lazy.

A few days later I was listening to the radio and the new Will.i.am song came on and boy what a crap fest this is. It’s so bad that if I had heard it directly after hearing that line from the song mentioned before, my head really would have exploded. It’s kinda funny because when you listen to earlier Black Eyed Peas stuff it sounds good, then they added Fergie to the group and it just went down hill from there. There was the uber-crappy my humps song, which Alanis Morisette covered and that was good because it was so funny. I thought that it was Fergies fault that the Black-Eyed Peas started sucking, especially when she released her solo album and it was of the same quality of my humps. Then I heard the solo attempt from Will.i.am and realised that is wasn’t just Fergie that is ruining music today. His new song is basically a couple of lines repeated over and over again. The first part is him asking girls where they got their body from, while the girls answer with “I got it from my mama.” Wow, that is retarded. The next half of the song is him basically saying that if a girl is pretty/hot/sexy then there is a good chance that her daughter will be pretty/hot/sexy too. He also says that if you are ugly then you will be guaranteed to have ugly children as well. I just can’t figure out how someone could sit around and come up with this crap and think that it’s the greatest thing and the whole world needs to hear it.

The really sad part is that no one seems to question it anymore. They just hear the latest song and think it’s really good because it’s the latest thing. Either that or the radio stations play the same crappy song 10 times an hour so it gets stuck in your head, no matter how crappy it is, and you somehow get brainwashed into thinking it’s a good song.

Now don’t get me wrong, I like a lot of crappy music. The difference is I don’t usually pay money for it and I listen to it in my own home, alone, with the headphones on and the volume turned way down so there this no chance of my listening to the crappy music infecting someone else. That’s my little rant, and now I have to go listen to something good to get the thoughts of this crap they are playing on the radio out of my head.

It’s an Ambulance

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard people say that the Ecto-1 (the car from the Ghostbusters) was a hearse. It was an Ambulance. When Ray pulls up with it after he bought it, it had a red flashing light on the top, and a siren. To me that means it was at one time used as an ambulance. Now granted that type of car was used as both a hearse and an ambulance depending on who bought the car.

Hearse, no lights or anything on the roof….Ambulance, Lights and crap on the roof.

So clearly Ray bought an old used ambulance. Quit calling it a hearse.

HP

I love the people at HP. We recently bought a HP Photosmart R827 camera, and after only having it for 3 weeks, the screen got busted. I admit it was more than likely my fault that the screen broke. I took it to the last Bomber home game (the one where Milt Steagal beat the all time touchdown record), and I guess I got a little excited sometime in the fourth quarter, and broke the screen. It really pissed me off when I looked down at the camera and the screen was all lit up without any actually displaying anything but a nice spider-web crack in it. After we got home and after some further investigation, my best guess is that I had it in my hand and started clapping. The center of the spider-web was in the area of where my ring would have hit it had I done that. I took the camera back to bestbuy, but seeing as it was past the 14day mark, they couldn’t do anything about it. 14 DAYS, what kind of a return policy is that! After that bit of frustration, and pretty much knowing that the damage was caused by “improper care” so the warranty was out, I took it to a local camera repair shop. They said that the screen itself cost $120, and for them to put it in was another $40. We only paid $170 for the camera, so that seemed kind of stupid. I decided my best bet was to suck it up and buy a replacement. I searched in a few stores and it seemed like that was the only camera I couldn’t buy anywhere. Downtrodden, I came home and started looking in the Internet, and only found a few but they were selling for $220 – $260. For that price I could buy the next better model at any of the local stores. So in a last ditch effort I called HP to see what they could do for me. I told the technician that I only had the camera for around 3 weeks, and that the screen was cracked. I told him there was a good chance that it was cracked due to improper use. The technician told me that that seemed very odd, that a LCD screen only three weeks old would break that easily, so he said that they would send out a replacement camera right away, and that I should send back this one. I asked what would happen if they found that I had in fact broken the screen and it wasn’t a factory problem. He told me that they would then just cancel the remainder of my warranty. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I was incredibly surprised at how nicely they treated me. I’m used to getting the third degree from service people, and right away being blamed that I broke it and there was nothing that they could do. It’s such a relief that there is at least one company out there that at least gives the customers the benefit of the doubt. I think I’m going to be sticking to HP for my small, take anywhere camera’s from now on. I just wish they made higher end models.

WiFi

I love wi-fi. As you know I recently “borrowed” my dad’s laptop with no definite plans on returning it. I also “borrowed” his wireless router. So at this moment I’m sitting on my deck, enjoying a nice cool breeze while I update my blog. I love it. My trusty Hound is lying by my feet enjoying the fact that a: she isn’t in the stifling heat of the house, and b: the fact that I’m sitting outside with her. I should really spend a lot more time outside, but I’m just so damn lazy it’s hard sometimes. Actually I think I’ll take Scout for a walk right now. Bye

Slowi..n…g D……o……..w……………..n

My entries will probably slow down a lot in the next few weeks/months. I know I’m dragging my trip entries on a lot, and I’m not really saying much of anything on them, which is kind of annoying me, but I just want to get it out there. Hopefully I’ll only have a couple more entries. I really want to complain about that Dodge dealership though. Anyway the reason my entries will be slowing down is that I have something big coming up. I don’t really want to go into detail about it. Not many people know what I’m up to and the few that do only know by accident, except my wife, who has known all along. I want to keep it this way, because for one I have had so many ideas and plans in the past that I have shared with everyone, yet nothing ever came to be, and also a I just don’t feel it’s something that I want to share at this time.

Basically what I’m saying is that I’m going to be busy for a while, and I’m asking that everyone prey for me to help me get through this. I’m making it sound like it’s a bad thing that is happening, but in reality it is a really good thing, and I really hope that everything works out. I’ll do my best to keep posting all this useless crap that no one cares about but if it goes on for a few weeks with no new posts, don’t panic, I shall return. Unless I just don’t feel like it, and in that case, I guess you just have to find some other lunatics ramblings too read, you know the internet is full of us.

Bill and Ted (kind of)

They are planning on making a third Bill and Ted movie, only without Bill, or Ted. Apparently both Keanu Reeves (“Ted” Theodore Logan), and Alex Winter (Bill S. Preston Esquire) were interested in coming back, but Keanu’s agent advised him against it. Damn you Keanu’s Agent, that would have been awesome, now we will probably be subjected to the same crappy sequel, without the orgional stars along the lines of Dumb and Dumberer.

That sucks.

Michael Bay Is A God!

The above statement is false, but I mean, c’mon people, what’s wrong with you. I’ve been seeing a few comments on the new Transformers movie, about it not being good and then cursing out Michael Bay for it. You people are so annoying. You sit there and bitch about how he is a bad director and that his movies have no real plot, just a lot of pretty explosions. Yet it seems that whenever his next movie comes out, you all flock to it, make it a huge hit, and yet seem surprised and outraged when it turns out that it is just an action movie, with those big explosions. He directs enjoyable movies (for the most part) that you can sit down, turn off your brain, and watch the movie. The rest of us knew that nothing new was going to happen this time around, why did you? You don’t have to pay close attention to every little detail, afraid that if you don’t hear what the next character says you will be lost for the rest of the movie. Personally, I like all types of movies. Some days it’s really nice to just sit back and just watch a movie, one that I don’t have to watch 20 times before you actually figure out what’s going on, like Donnie Darko. Other days, I wanna get completely immersed in a totally convoluted plot that really does not make sense until a few days later when you finally piece it together. I went into Transformers thinking that it was going to be exactly what it was. I enjoyed it quit a bit, not one of my favorites or anything like that, but really enjoyable. I had a few problems with it, like how the people some how don’t notice 30 foot tall robots “sneaking” around the neighbourhood, but you have to bear in mind, the target audience was primarily children, and they probably thought this was really funny. Kids are stupid that way. The rest of you people knew exactly what type of movie Michael Bay was making before he even started filming, so you should have made your piece with it along time ago. There is no reason for anyone to go see this movie, and come out cursing his name. If he had made at least one movie that was different, then maybe, but not after every single one of his movies turns out to be the same. I’m just saying this because I’m sick of it all. He is not my favorite director. I don’t really have a favorite. I really enjoy earlier James Cameron movies, before he got obsessed with the Titanic. Although, I’m more likely to see a movie because of an actor that I like, rather than director. I’m sure a lot of you people won’t take anything I say seriously because of my anti-Joss Whedon blog a few weeks ago, but I stand by it. I really enjoy watching movies, I have almost 200 DVDs in my collection, from all categories.

In conclusion, if you don’t like a certain Director/Actor/Writer/Composer/Key Grip, don’t see his or her movies, it’s that simple. And if you do find yourself magically transported to the movie theatre against your will, and are forced to sit through one of said persons movies, just turn off your brain, and at least try to enjoy it like the rest of us.

Laptoppy Goodness

I recently confiscated my Dad’s old Laptop. I “borrowed” it for my trip so I would have a place to dump all my Digital Photos and so we could watch movies while driving through the vastness that is Saskatchewan. Now that our trip is done, I plan on holding onto this thing as long as I can. It’s really nice having it around, and I’m positive it’s gotten more use in the last week than it has all year. It was at one point my Dad’s primary computer, but he has since bought a Desktop and left this laptop to collect dust, only to be brought out on rare occasions. For me this Laptop is handy because I like to type things like blogs and some attempts at short stories, but I’m also extremely lazy. Lazy to the point that going up a flight of stairs to type on the Desk Top PC just doesn’t seem to be worth it. Having this Laptop at my disposal I can sit on the couch and type whatever comes to my mind, so maybe it isn’t the best of things, because now my blog will be full of useless rambling such as this one.

RANT!!!

Why does how much money you have determine whether the street you live on gets fixed? I live in a neighbourhood that is kinda rough around the edges. My block of the street is in horrible condition. I mean I’m scared to drive my 4×4 down the street. One block over the street was in about the same condition, so they started to fix it. They started with the sidewalk, and got that looking all nice and purdy. Then they ripped up the whole street down about 3 feet, and started to fix it properly. The past few years they have been fixing the potholes on the street with that stupid little truck that squirts asphalt down, and that’s it. It lasts about 15 minutes before the pothole is back and bigger than ever. I was really excited when they started to fix the street a block down, and was and still am hoping that my section of the street will b e next. The problem is, it’s been at least 2 months since they started fixing the street, and it’s still no where near done. They just finished packing down the gravel this week. It seems that they work on it for a day, then leave it for a week or two, then come back do a little and then leave again. We left for a week, and I was hoping to see at least some progress in the time we were gone, but it looked EXACTLY the same as when we left.

My wife and I were talking as we walked on the nice new sidewalk, and she made a really good point. If this were a rich neighbourhood, the street would have been fixed in half the time as what it has taken them so far. Also they wouldn’t leave big piles of rebar on the grass and piles of gravel all over the place. I recently saw in the paper that someone was complaining because their back lane (which was gravel) was in bad condition. It also said that this person who complained was going to stop paying her taxes if the city didn’t fix it. I’m sure her back lane was in disrepair, but that’s my problem. It was her BACK LANE. Looking at the picture they had in the paper, my front street was worse off than her Back Lane. Now, more than likely, because she made a stink about it they graded her lane and now it’s fine, while I still have a crappy street to drive down. I really wish that it wasn’t just the loud annoying people that got their way. The city needs to take these people and have them drive down some streets that REALLY need the work. Some people need to realize that the world does not revolve around them just because they have more money than other people. I don’t really have that much money, but I pay taxes too. My street should have at least some priority over other peoples back lanes.

I’m still crossing my fingers that when/if they finish paving the block down, they will still have time do fix my block. If they do, then maybe I’ll bitch about my back lane and get that fixed before someone who has a crappy front street, because I live in this city, so I deserve to have everything around me to be exactly what I want, I don’t care about anyone else, as long as I get what I want. Then again, I don’t make enough money to be that self centered.
